No access to Mt Cheeseman lodges until 9 Jan

I currently have a Buddhist Group staying at Snowline Lodge through until 8 Jan. This is a silent retreat so I would appreciate if any of your members are flying from Cheeseman Top carpark over the next few days that they don’t go up to the Lodges.

Magic Mountain Road Maintenance. VOTES NEEDED.

Part 1;

Magic Mountain near Omarama has provided some of the best flying in NZ for over 25 years. It has always been a challenge to drive up but the track has now deteriorated to the point where a bulldozer or grader was needed to make it safe. For many years funds were collected at the XC Classic, which went into a special CHGPC fund and paid out as required. Since the death of the owner (who used a grader on it) there was nobody available to maintain the road so the fund was abandoned and maintenance has been by manual labour since 2008.

Stolen paragliding gear

I had my lovely new (but 2nd hand) wing and bag stolen in Lyttelton on Sat night from my vehicle :( I was wondering if members could be on the look out for it. It is VERY distinctive!

Nuvuik Icepeak 6; green leading edge with Blue and white tips. Has distinctive competition numbers 222 on the lower surface along with ABAC (factory race team name)... this is a top comp wing and very obviously a comp 2 liner wing. Very few people should be flying this wing unless they are very experienced.

Stolen in a GIN black with fluro green stripes 90 l bag...

URGENT: NZHGPA safety advisory 2-2013 Franz Joseph area and MBZ

It has come to the attention of the NZHGPA that paragliders have been flying from a site known as Alex Knob in the Franz Joseph area of the West Coast. This is within NZB 978, a high use MBZ with frequent helicopter flights serving the tourist area. Incorrect information has been posted in web sites such as Paragliding Earth that suggests contacting the local helicopter operators and/or flying outside their normal operating hours is sufficient to fly from this site. This is not true. It is dangerous and illegal to fly in this or any MBZ unless you comply with all of the rules for that MBZ.

PLB's vs SPOT/SEND devices

Hey Team,

Due to recent events I have questioned the emergency reliability of the SPOT devices and after communicating with the Rescue Team and reading what is available on the internet I have come to the following conclusion.

In an emergency (as in I need a helicopter now) a dedicated PLB is the only way to go.

Please read the review/explanation below and consider your options. Im happy to discuss further if you wish.

Found Gloves

Many weeks ago I spotted someone not quite making it back from the Gut, so went over to give him a lift back. Think it was Mike or Dave? Anyway, one 'Youngstown' glove was left in the back of my black SUV and the other was found on the ground the next day. I still have both gloves if someone wants to claim them. Cheers, Cliff 021 204 9960

We are all required to have a current Warrant of Fitness on your wing!

Our wonderful safety officer has organized an evening when he will be available to WOF your wing and harness for you and issue with the appropriate certification (assuming your gear passes).

Be there at 12 November at 7pm (1900 hrs for the military minded of you) at Middleton Grange School Hall. The entrance to the hall is opposite 49 Acacia Ave.
