Mt Dobson Fairly - Is anyone flying there?

Hi everyone, I'm living between Fairly and Geraldine and looking for fellow PG pilots to fly with in our area. Also being relatively new to the sport I could use some advise about other sites nearby. Anyone keen?

Hang Gliding WOF night Thursday 16th Jan

High All,

Dan wants to do a WOF night next Thursday 16th Jan at the park up from Tropicool starting 5pm.
Bring your batten profiles if you want to check them on Rod’s work benches.
Let’s have a beer and fish and chips afterwards at Tropicool, 33 Buchan Street.

Happy landings
Rod and Dan

Southern Regional Comp- Wanaka- 11/12 Jan

Come join us for the second competition of the season. The long range forecast is finally indicating a clearance in the weather. It's a great way to improve your flying in a supportive environment. We are hoping these will be among the most beginner friendly comps but also appeal to experienced pilots as well. There will be workshops for low airtime pilots .

Text registration of interest, ASAP, to 0274931112 with decision to go depending on weather forecast made Thursday 1900 9th Jan.

Visiting Pilot needs some guidance

Hey all, there is a visiting paraglider pilot in town for 3 months (PG2). He needs some guidance on local sites so please send him a txt when heading to Tailors, Gondola or Little River.

No access to Mt Cheeseman lodges until 9 Jan

I currently have a Buddhist Group staying at Snowline Lodge through until 8 Jan. This is a silent retreat so I would appreciate if any of your members are flying from Cheeseman Top carpark over the next few days that they don’t go up to the Lodges.

Magic Mountain Road Maintenance. VOTES NEEDED.

Part 1;

Magic Mountain near Omarama has provided some of the best flying in NZ for over 25 years. It has always been a challenge to drive up but the track has now deteriorated to the point where a bulldozer or grader was needed to make it safe. For many years funds were collected at the XC Classic, which went into a special CHGPC fund and paid out as required. Since the death of the owner (who used a grader on it) there was nobody available to maintain the road so the fund was abandoned and maintenance has been by manual labour since 2008.

Stolen paragliding gear

I had my lovely new (but 2nd hand) wing and bag stolen in Lyttelton on Sat night from my vehicle :( I was wondering if members could be on the look out for it. It is VERY distinctive!

Nuvuik Icepeak 6; green leading edge with Blue and white tips. Has distinctive competition numbers 222 on the lower surface along with ABAC (factory race team name)... this is a top comp wing and very obviously a comp 2 liner wing. Very few people should be flying this wing unless they are very experienced.

Stolen in a GIN black with fluro green stripes 90 l bag...

Ozone Mojo PG bag left at Little River Takeoff

Whoever left the Ozone Mojo bag at Little River today, I have it.

URGENT: NZHGPA safety advisory 2-2013 Franz Joseph area and MBZ

It has come to the attention of the NZHGPA that paragliders have been flying from a site known as Alex Knob in the Franz Joseph area of the West Coast. This is within NZB 978, a high use MBZ with frequent helicopter flights serving the tourist area. Incorrect information has been posted in web sites such as Paragliding Earth that suggests contacting the local helicopter operators and/or flying outside their normal operating hours is sufficient to fly from this site. This is not true. It is dangerous and illegal to fly in this or any MBZ unless you comply with all of the rules for that MBZ.
