Just after the recent AGM in Auckland, some of the HG delegates met to appoint the Hang Gliding Competition Committee for the coming season and discuss the state of the comp scene in NZ. Members that attended the meeting were Evan Lamberton (President), Ross Gray ( HG Operations Manger), Glenn Meadows (HG Training Manager), Grant Middendorf (PG Operations Manager) Hagen Brueggemann, Grant Tatham, Dennis Thorpe, Mark Alton, Dennis Green, Herman Ahrens, and Ian Miller.

The meeting was positive and everyone who attended is keen to work together and put past differences behind them to make sure that the up-coming Nationals in Wanaka and all regional leagues are well run, have good support and are fun for all who attend. Good discussion around support for lesser experienced competitors resulted in agreement that every effort will be made to make sure that these pilots will be guided, encouraged and mentored in a positive and friendly comp environment.

Consensus was reached that the HG Comp Committee for coming season will be Dennis Thorpe, Mark Alton and Max Gerbhardt. Grant and Hagen have agreed to assist the committee when needed. Obviously further assistance will be needed and gratefully accepted by the Committee and comp directors, so competitors and others who could help out with arrangements, publicity, briefings etc, are encouraged to contact committee members. Info about upcoming competitions can be found in Airborn, by contacting one of the Comp Committee members and will be on the NZHGPA website soon. Some leagues dates are already penciled in and the Wanaka Nationals (24 Jan - 1 Feb) should prove to be a week of fantastic mountain flying with a strong turnout. Happy flying.
