The Hike

Notes:

Straight-forward routes from sea-level start in Orton Bradley Park via the Mount Hebert Walkway traversing either the western side of Mount Herbert or the eastern side of Mount Bradley. https://www.ortonbradley.nz/walking-tracks

Trails also connect to the summit starting at the Diamond Harbour Jetty https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/canterbury/places/banks-peninsula-area/things-to-do/te-ara-pataka/mt-herbert-walkway/

The shortest approach is via the Monument Track starting at the Purau Port Levy Road saddle (440m) the ascent is reduced to 400m but a vehicle shuttle will be required.


Note: Closed for lambing from mid-August to mid-October. Check exact dates on DOC and Orton Bradley website links below. In 2023 the access route to the summit from Orton Bradley is to be opened through the lambing season, however check with Orton Bradley Management regarding access to fly and landing options during this time.
